Why business needs a global goal

Only two things play a role in your business - your goal and your real possibilities. Naturally, these things are correlated. And naturally, the higher the degree of correlation, the better. But! Believe me, it is absolutely not important what your possibilities are. Their absence to achieve a specific goal is the very last thing that should confuse you.

Opportunities are subject to a goal. Henry Ford began with the fact that at the age of 16 he became a street child, having run away from his father's farm in Detroit, and Steve Jobs - from telephone hooliganism and parties where they took ecstasy. If you have a goal, achievement methods will always be found, in any case. If you started with almost no start-up capital and did your first projects on your knee, you will understand me: step-by-step tutorial for achieving the goal in practice is easier to come up with than the goal itself. Its absence is the main problem of business stagnation. No goal. A ship without a compass drifts in the ocean.

The global goal of your activity is the last point you want to get to. The more distant and unattainable it is within the framework of the present and even tomorrow, the longer you will keep your strength and breath. A marathon runner calculates the resources of his body so as not to expire 500 meters from the start.

Signs of a global goal

  1. It is concrete to the limit. It just can't be abstract. This goal you must define mathematically precisely - to give the only possible formulation, as in the axiom. And no interpretations. The goal of the company cannot be the creation of a satisfied customer. She will never be the joy of working in a team of like-minded people. Do you know why? Because it does not inspire anyone - neither your customers, nor your employees, or - most importantly - you. This is the damn super task of your business. What the hell is a team of like-minded people?
  2. It should be impossible within your present, but real in the most distant and bright prospect. The global goal, achievable by the titanic super efforts, is at the very limit of reach, practically on the verge of reality and fiction, but:
  3. Without mystical fanaticism. We are practitioners. To believe, like idiots, in that which is unattainable in principle, we will not. There is no magic. Around us is physics.

You have found a global goal. What will happen next?

Everything is simple:

Your business processes will turn towards this goal. Spraying resources is essentially not possible. The straight line of your path will be built in a natural way - after all, you know perfectly well where you are going, and constantly think about only one thing: what steps need to be taken to achieve the goal. The path will be divided into segments: in order to achieve a global goal, you first need to go through all the segments of the path: in the short term (goal No. 1) - to achieve such indicators of revenue; in the medium term (goal number 2) - to make your product the best on the market. Then you will pass the target points number 3, 4, 5, etc. - there may be infinitely many of them, and it will be infinitely difficult for you to overcome them. But - if it calms you down - at each new level it will be easier for you than at that period when you overcame the segment to goal No. 1. At each new stage you have more and more experience, more and more resources, and your muscle mass is becoming more serious.

You ask yourself: what should this global goal be? You will understand, give yourself time. If you need it, it will appear: images materialize.

There is nothing indicative of the real story. It is better to tell once than to give a hundred arguments. So here's a story for you.

The story of one superhuman goal

It began in the 20s. The twentieth century in the USSR - a glorious time of bold fantasies, not yet limited by censorship. Time of infinite possibilities, crazy goals and pure faith in the forces of mankind. A group of enthusiasts, followers of Russian cosmism, gathered in the basement and designed aircraft to fly to other planets. Among them was young Sergey Korolev, the genius of the world practical cosmonautics, the future organizer of the production of rocket and space technology and rocket weapons of the USSR.

Throughout his adult life, this man dreamed of only one thing - launching a rocket to Mars. Imagine: the devastation and famine in the country, just ended civil - well, what the hell is Mars? And he does not care. He has a goal. No not like this. Like this:

In 1931, together with Friedrich Zander, with the help of Osoaviahima, he created the public organization GIRD (Jet Propulsion Study Group) in Moscow. A year later, she became the first state laboratory to develop Soviet rocket aircraft.

Korolev went to his super-goal step by step, carrying the dream of her through the camps, the war, the obstacles from the leadership of the country. He dreamed of a Martian rocket, and he was tasked with launching the first artificial satellite (1955). He dreamed of the Atcidalian Sea, and he was told: we need an automatic spacecraft for a flight to the moon (1958). He had dreams of sandstorms on the red planet, and he was given the task: it is necessary that the Soviet citizen be the first person in space (1961). So, progressively (goal No. 1, 2, 3 ...) he went to the main one - to design a multi-ton manned rocket for flights to Mars, to the cause of his whole life.

A fanatic practitioner who gathered around him the same enthusiastic talented enthusiasts, he brought up in his design bureau a whole generation of people devoted to the exploration of space. You are lucky if you make a team of the same.

They worked for wear on the project of the orbital station, then in the framework of the Soviet program of the Moon exploration, etc. Korolev was the first who did not sleep at night, had not seen his relatives for weeks. His colleagues recollect how formidable he could be by arranging spats: selective mat and bright imagery. But he was admired, as only genius can admire.

He almost reached his global goal - the Soviet H-1 super heavy-class launch vehicle, almost the size of Empire State Building, began to be developed in the 1960s. She was supposed to be a prototype for assembling an interplanetary manned spacecraft for flights to Mars and Venus. But first they wanted to launch it to the moon - the race for its development was in full swing.

Korolev did not have time to bring to mind the matter of his life. By the mid-70s, it became obvious that the war for the moon was lost to the Americans, they stopped funding the moon program and stopped it.

Yes, I did not have time. Yes, not achieved. But how many did on the way to this super-goal. Only thanks to him, humanity has understood that flights to Mars are quite achievable, there is nothing fantastic in them.

There is one more obvious truth that should definitely give you strength: the real goal is movement towards the goal. The man is like this: reaching the limit, he gives up and becomes useless. He has no purpose, no more drive in life. So, the more extreme your goal, the better for you. Therefore: Have a nice flight to Mars!
