Video content creation guide: conquering YouTube with a zero budget

We tell how to start producing video content on your own and go to YouTube with it. The entire base, which you need to own beginner yutubovodu.

For several years now YouTube has been confidently keeping in the top three most visited sites in the world. It is not surprising that video hosting has become one of the most effective channels for promotion. Not only individuals, but also entire companies come here for PR.

Video content helps to draw attention to yourself or your product, to present information in a user-friendly form.

In many cases it is more interesting and useful to watch the video than to read the text. For example, a master class in clay modeling in video format is more useful than explanations in the form of an article.

Yes, and sometimes shoot a video is much easier than writing a guide. Showing how to plaster a wall is easier than detailing a process in several paragraphs.

The YouTube channel is not just for companies or individual bloggers. Information sites that need traffic, video content will help not only increase the permanent audience of readers (viewers), but also get a large number of links.

If you already have a popular site, it will be easier for you to get views and subscribers. And completely free. For example, the relatively young (less than a year) channel of the marketer and blogger Neil Patel has already gained a good audience of subscribers. Five-minute videos are short but informative internet marketing tips. The author not only posts videos on YouTube, but also adds them to articles on his popular blog.

Many entrepreneurs and site owners ignore YouTube, believing that creating video content is difficult and expensive. In fact, there are quite a few ways to extract it, and among them you can find simple options even for a zero budget. About this we now talk. But first an important digression.

You want on YouTube - play by his rules

The main rule of YouTube is that content should be unique. This does not mean that if you use someone else’s video you will be immediately blocked, but problems will arise sooner or later.

Gross mistake beginners - the use of someone else's music. You can not just take any melody you like and paste it into your video. Without permission to use this equates to theft. Music should be free. About where to get it, it will be discussed at the end of the article.

The video sequence also can not contain fragments of someone else's material, since in this case a complaint from the copyright holder may be received. If quoting is necessary, try to use no more than 10 seconds of third-party video. And only in those cases when it is really necessary.

When publishing materials, also consider that the aspect ratio of the player on YouTube is 16: 9. Do not take into account this moment - get the black bars on the sides.

In general, before you start working with YouTube, it is useful to look into its help center.

Where to get material for video

There are several ways to create a video:

  • Shooting on camera. The presence of equipment in this case plays a big role. The user has already managed to get used to the high-quality picture.
  • Animation. It is relatively expensive. One of the common options is video infographics, which is used, for example, to describe the operation of Internet services.
  • Record video from the screen. Perfect for a visual demonstration of the process (in videos from the how-to series).
  • Presentations. For someone bored, but someone like it. Not everyone likes to look at the broadcasting face. The presentation is more informative. If you need to show numbers, statistics, screenshots, etc. - it will perfectly cope with this task.
  • Video from photo. Simple and fast. For individual cases may be appropriate. For example, to demonstrate the portfolio of a photographer or ideas handmade.
  • Podcast. Some podcasters post audio to YouTube, accompanying it with a static picture. Such videos may also be of interest to users.

Shooting on camera

Before you start shooting, decide in what form you will provide information. It may be:

  • blog (conversational format)
  • lecture (show something on the board or add text notes during installation),
  • Demonstration (product overview, how-to instruction, city / office trip, etc.),
  • interviews, etc.

The list can be continued for a long time, since the formats can be different, up to full films and broadcasts.

It should be borne in mind that for different niches a different material feed is applicable. Somewhere the video blogging format would be appropriate, somewhere better to submit information in a different form. Of course, not necessarily limited to one format. If you are an expert in a particular field, you can record both lectures and short video blogs on a specific topic. The main thing - to interest the viewer.

Shooting with a camera is expensive. The minimum set of equipment - SLR camera, tripod, light, softbox.

Why can not be limited to a simple camera or even a mobile phone? The fact is that the viewer almost always has a choice in the form of a list of similar videos in the right column. The competition on YouTube is big. Therefore, any advantages, including high-quality shooting, are suitable for advancing competitors.

Suppose that you do not have the opportunity to shoot competitive videos for the camera.

Consider more simple ways to produce high-quality video without the use of cameras and related equipment.

This article will not review free online services. Because the most worthy of them, as a rule, are still paid. And you will find out about this when you have already created a project, and you are offered to save the video with a loss of quality or pay a subscription. For some tasks, there are free tools, but I see no reason to use them. Most free services are inconvenient (for example, due to the presence of advertising) and have limitations in functions. The simplest programs for recording and editing video can be found in the public domain, downloaded and installed in just a few minutes. And some of them are already on your computer.

Record video from the screen

There are quite a few programs for capturing video from a computer screen, and they practically do not differ in functionality. However, there are several problems:

  1. Most programs are paid. The trial version is either limited in time or has limitations on functionality (watermarking, recording no more than 5 minutes, etc.).
  2. During the installation of some programs, you will be imposed on the "most valuable" products of Yandex, from which it is difficult to get rid of in the future.

After a long search, I still managed to find a couple of decent options.

iSpring Free Cam

Simple, convenient, and most importantly - a free program. You can download it on the official website. To do this, enter your email address.

When working with the program, the user has the opportunity to select the capture area (specify a specific window if necessary), as well as the video resolution.

To simplify the process, you can add hotkeys to the main functions.

OBS Studio

Website: obsproject.com

OBS Studio is a full-fledged free studio for recording video from the screen and live broadcasts on social networks (YouTube, Facebook, Twich, etc.). The program seems difficult because of the many features. To facilitate the task, we will analyze the main ones.

First you need to select the source of the recording. To do this, in the "Sources" tab, press the right button and select "Add" (or click on the "+" sign). In the list that appears, look for the desired option.

"Screen Capture" means that the entire screen will be recorded. So do not be alarmed to see this picture in the preview:

Window Capture allows you to record a separate window. For example, you have prepared a presentation that you need to show the audience, and you do not want something else to be in the frame.

Pay attention to the item "Capture the game." It is useful in case you record your playlists.

Recordable windows may overlap. For example, a useful option is to add an image from a webcam. To do this, select "Video capture device" as the source.

It should end up with something like this:

For clarity, it is often necessary to select the cursor during video recording. Unfortunately, free software with such an option is hard to find. Therefore, you can use the trial version of paid programs. For example, Movavi Screen Capture allows you to highlight the cursor and clicks. Only now have to restrict the short video and the presence of watermarks. Or still pay 990 rubles.

Presentations

The presentation created in Power Point can be turned into a decent video series if you leave the usual templates provided by the program.

For example, in most cases, slide backgrounds are not needed at all. Minimalism is welcome - text and images (tables, charts). And forget about old-fashioned bulk fonts. And also about special effects for a "cool" appearance of slides such as checkers or rotation.

As you can see, nothing superfluous: text and images (screenshots). You can add slides with vector illustrations or icons, but only if there really is a need. For example, if the slide is boring and just got a funny picture in the subject.

We will not dwell on the process of creating presentations in Power Point. Any schoolboy is familiar with this. Let's stop only on a few important points.

First of all, do not forget to set the resolution to 16: 9 (the default is 4: 3) in the Design tab. This must be done so that there are no black bars when the video is shown on the site.

These are the videos found on YouTube. And it is a bit annoying.

It is important to dilute the boring text of the presentation with pictures, diagrams and other visual materials. On YouTube you can find videos containing only text and voice, which periodically cause discontent of viewers.

Tastes differ. This is indicated by the second comment. However, a couple of extra illustrations or screenshots to the slides would not hurt.

The main rule when creating presentations for YouTube is to not let the user get bored and go to similar videos. And there are always a lot of them.

How to turn an article into a video using Power Point

An informational site or blog is a great source of ideas for video content. Any of your article can be turned into a video. Here are some recommendations:

  1. Make a plan of the article. Identify the important points to be noted on the slides. No need to drag a text-wrapper on the slides. Record thoughts tezisno. Leave explanations behind the scenes - voice them with voice.
  2. Place the title on the first slide. Make the font large. Work a little on style. You can add a picture.
  3. Format the text. Highlight important in bold. Mark the headings (if any) and apply a beautiful style to them. It is advisable to use the style without shadows and volume - limit the font type and color. Add lists if necessary.
  4. Complete the slides with illustrations. It can be photos, screenshots, charts, graphs, tables - all that is needed for clarity. For the design of slides perfectly fit icons and vector images.
  5. Use simple shapes to design slides, when appropriate, lines, arrows, rectangles, etc. If you find a good use for them, you can slightly diversify the boring design.
  6. Do not get carried away by the animation. She needs a minimum. The best option for transitions is fading, cutting, shifting or turning. These are the most neutral, non-distracting effects. Avoid effects that have a black background (as in checkers, for example).

For example, you have a language site. Slides can be arranged as follows:

This is just one example. The article could be called “10 products for weight loss”, “50 clinging headlines for articles”, etc. The main thing is to follow the principles listed earlier when creating a video presentation.

Do not forget about the "Format" tab, which allows you to add effects to objects - text, shapes, tables, etc.

By the way, in Power Point I have been able to create minimalistic intros (screensavers at the beginning of the video), when there were no other tools at hand. The main thing, again, is not to overdo it with effects.

Finally, when saving a file, do not choose the format of a regular presentation - you need a video file that you can work with in video editors in the future.

However, you can save the presentation to a standard ppt-file, and then show it, while simultaneously recording your computer screen.

Video from photo

And now the simplest thing is creating a video from several photos. What is available to everyone. Selection of photos, for example, suitable for demonstration of creative ideas. Here is one such example. And here is a rather viral example on a different topic.

In general, themes for such videos can be very different. One more.

The first two commercials use the effect of camera movement. This option is usually endowed with paid video editors.

You can create simpler slideshows in a few minutes in the same Windows Movie Maker or, for example, in Slideshow Maker.

The photo is added using the option Add Photo (you can immediately add a folder - Add folder).

Next to the photo you will see three columns: Time (time of display of each slide), Transition (transition effect) and Delete (remove slide).

At the bottom right there is a function to add audio - Add audio. If it is shorter than the video sequence, select Loop audioso that the melody is repeated until the end of the video.

In the left corner opposite Filename enter the file name and select the format.

We press Createand the video is ready.

You can also prepare a slideshow from a photo using the standard Windows Movie Maker. This is a pretty good installation tool available to everyone. Suitable for beginners, as it contains many tips.

Stock Videos

Along with photostocks, there are also video boards, where you can choose suitable footage for the rollers. Stocks - short footage or animation for editing. For example, if you have a conversational video, you can use video clips on a theme as a background or simply abstract animated pictures.

On paid drains, the choice is richer: in addition to regular videos, here you can find footage with a monophonic background or alpha channel (transparent background). They can be superimposed over the main picture, creating different compositions and effects. On free drains, they also occur, but much less frequently. Well, the quality of files on free drains is often lower.

However, finding good free footage is real. Here are some pretty good options for videobloggers with a limited budget:

  • Pexels Videos. Large selection of videos on various topics. Attribution is not required, can be used for any purpose.
  • Videvo. In addition to footage, you can download motion graphics (including effects on a transparent background), music, and sound effects for videos. All the most "juicy" is provided for money, but there are also a lot of good free files.
  • Free HD Stock Footage. Group on Vimeo video hosting, where they post good free footage.
  • IgniteMotion. A very meager selection of background videos, but you can download quickly and without registration.
  • Free Video Footage. Here, only 3D-animation, for the most part not the best quality.
  • Clipcanvas. The section with free footage at the moment has only 172 files, but the quality is very decent. Registration is required for downloading.
  • MotionElements. A huge library of media files. It has everything you need for the creator: video, animation, effects, background music, photos. True, you can download only one (!) File. But if you register, 5 files per week will be available for free download.

Please note that when using stock video you lose a piece of uniqueness. However, if the semantic component of the video and its installation will be really good, users will still be satisfied.

Fragments from other people's videos: how to use them correctly

Sometimes it may be necessary to take a fragment from other people's videos for your video. And here you need to be careful.

Learn more about the rules for using someone else's content in the help of YouTube itself. In short, everything rests on the principle of fair use. For example, the use of other people's content as an illustration of their point of view can be considered fair. Therefore, reviewers of films, serials, programs, videos are not delinquent - they use a fragment to clearly demonstrate what they mean.

But the problem is that the concept of fair use is very vague, and, according to YouTube itself, even if you do everything correctly, you may get in trouble. In the case of a trial, many different factors are taken into account.

Therefore, be careful with third-party content and use it only when necessary. If you are not very pleased with someone, in a court of copyright infringement would be a strong argument against you.

There is also a version that there will be no problems if fragments are used for less than 10 seconds, but even for such inserts you can get a strike.

Video editing

Video editing is always necessary, no matter if you are shooting on a camera or recording video from a laptop screen. В любом случае после записи что-то нужно будет вырезать, где-то подправить, наложить или убрать звук и т. д. Но для этих целей необязательно обзаводиться набором программ, достаточно установить Sony Vegas.

О Sony Vegas знает каждый ютубер. This is a powerful tool for creating video content, featuring incredible simplicity and ease of use (which, by the way, are not obvious at first glance). By moving the cursor over the working area, you can cut out extra fragments from the video sequence in a couple of minutes, add or replace a sound track, apply text, make animated transitions, etc. These are only the most basic functions of the program. We will consider them.

After starting the program, you must make sure that the permission is suitable for publication on YouTube. To do this, select the item Properties (Properties) in the menu File.

Now let's see what we have to deal with.

Workspace with tracks resembles layers in Photoshop. The principle is the same - the tracks overlap each other in order of priority. The very first track is the topmost layer. This may be, for example, the text that should be in the foreground.

Sony Vegas allows you to create videos from scratch. We restrict ourselves to the installation of an existing video. To do this in the window Explorer Select the desired file and drag it to the track. Various video, audio files and pictures are added to the editing table in this simple way.

The file has loaded. Go to the basic options.

Initially uploaded video is a single unit. To edit audio and video separately or delete an unnecessary track, you need to separate them using the [U] key.

To cut the video, place the cursor in the right place and hold down the [S] key.

The selected area is quickly deleted when you click [delete]. So Sony Vegas allows one click to remove the sound from the video. You need another sound - just drag it from the folder to the scale.

It is not necessary to separate the tracks from each other if you are not going to work on each of them separately.

Now add transitions between fragments. To do this, select Transitions. You will see a folder with a variety of transitions. Choose the one you like and drag it to the scale - to the junction of two adjacent fragments.

Near Transition menu is located Video FX. Here are the special effects. They must be placed directly on the fragments themselves. We will not dwell on the special effects. Consider another point - adding text.

To do this, create a new track (right mouse button - Instert Video Track) and put it on top of the rest. Then in the section Media generators choose Title & Text and move to the track one of the options.

To customize the text to your needs, click on the icon in the form of a frame at the bottom of the text element.

Run through the main features.

In addition to the text in the visual range, you can add other elements. Let's look at a simple example - adding a website address in the top corner of a video.

To do this, create a substrate in the form of a rectangle. The basis for it will be the element Solid color in the same directory Media generators. Adding this element to the scale, we get a blank screen of the selected color. But we need a rectangle in the upper right corner. Therefore, go to the menu Event Pan / Cropas shown in the picture to achieve the desired shape.

Put a tick in front Mask, select the left rectangle shape and draw a rectangle in the upper right corner.

Now go again Generated Media and set the position of the text.

So, we considered the main functions. We now turn to the main thing - how to save the resulting file.

First, select everything that is on the scale. To do this, click on it twice to select the entire required area. Next in the menu File choose Render as.

In the window that appears, select the folder in which the file will be saved, enter its name and mark the appropriate format.

The final step is a button Render. If the video is large, the saving process may be delayed. Be patient.

Personal advice: I usually prepare a presentation in Power Point in advance, save it in wmv format, and then in Sony Vegas I add a soundtrack, intro and outro to the file (as a picture with links - “subscribe to me”), I cut off the excess, I render - the video is ready.

The principle of operation of Sony Vegas is somewhat similar to the standard Windows Movie Maker, which, by the way, is absolutely free, unlike Vegas. But using the second is much easier. In addition, it gives almost unlimited possibilities for installation.

Audio preparation for clips

We have dealt with the video series. Let's go to the audio.

Sound is a very important part of the video. If the visual range can be presented with the help of a presentation and to simplify the task somewhat, then the audio recording should be approached very seriously. Often it is a bad sound that causes the video to close at the very beginning.

The audio track of the video can be presented in several versions:

  • recording your own voice on a microphone / recorder,
  • using someone else's voice (for example, the services of a freelance speaker),
  • background music,
  • lack of sound.

With the recording on the microphone everything seems to be clear. Although not quite.

Which microphone to choose

In one of the previous blog articles, examples of good microphones for recording podcasts were already given.

The listed models belong to the professional equipment, therefore will cost much. There are options for a more modest wallet.

Good condenser microphones for YouTube cost between 10 and 20 thousand rubles. You also need a pop filter. In general, it is better to see the reviews themselves YouTube on this topic.

Cheap microphones are a roulette game. You never know what will fall out. Although if you purchase an external sound card and carry out a series of manipulations, then everything can work out.

For example, I recorded this screencast for the “Texterra” on the Boya BY-M1 lapel microphone (price is in the range of 1000-1500 rubles). The sound was good, at least for the screencast, but there was a lot of background noise. Read how to get rid of it in the next paragraph.

Despite the fact that we are still considering free options, getting a good microphone is clearly not a hindrance if you plan to shoot video regularly and use your own voice. If several years ago it was possible to keep the viewer's attention by any quality, then now the viewer has a choice.

What to do if there is no microphone

Built-in laptop microphone, webcam, voice recorder on the phone - all this does not fit. You can try, but with a high degree of probability the audience will close your video and open the next one. Keep the viewer succeed only if you publish something really unique and important. Although even in this case, get ready to get a lot of dislikes.

When there is no microphone, more or less decent sound quality can be obtained using a digital camera. The more expensive the device, the better sound, as a rule.

If you have a presentation or a recording from the screen, but there is no sound, record it on camera. The resulting video is easily converted to audio using, for example, Free Video to MP3 Converter.

The problem of such tracks - the presence of noise. However, they literally in two minutes are removed in Audacity.

First, select an area that contains only noise. No extraneous sounds should be allocated - only noise.

Next step: “Effects” - “Noise Reduction”.

Click on "Create noise model".

Now we repeat the previous step - once again we apply the effect of noise reduction.

After these actions, the noise will be less, and it will be noticeable on schedule.

If you have no possibility at all to record a voice, the last option is background music. Of course, it is not always appropriate.

It is not annoying in those cases, if the information in the video is mostly visual, that is, all attention is focused on the picture. It can be a selection of photos with the most beautiful women on the planet, a city tour, watching a sleeping cat, etc.

If you write down the instruction, it is better to describe it in words. Although if the video presents a routine process consisting of repetitive actions, the instruction can be written down in the form of short text notes, and put music on the background.

On YouTube, there are often videos in which the author, ignoring the preferences of the audience, uses music as the main source of sound, and presents all information as text. No one says that you can not do that. But this is indicated by the amount of dislikes.

You need to decide: do you need views or regular viewers? You can hastily make a video, place a link to the site under it and enjoy it. But what's the point of this? Will someone share them? Will someone watch it? YouTube links work when content is in demand. And to make money on the views, again, it is necessary that the material was interesting and useful. The previous example is not the worst. But to get ahead of competitors you need to put a little more effort.

Where to get music for video

As already mentioned, YouTube is very strict about copyrights, and you can only use free music in your videos.

Where can I find it:

  • In the YouTube music library.
  • In communities "VKontakte". For example, here.
  • On specialized archive sites: Jamendo.com, Freemusicarchive.org.
  • On the sites of individual musicians who provide music for free in exchange for a link.

To get to the YouTube music library, go to the creative studio and in the side menu, select "Create" and then - - "Record Library". You will have an archive with free music and sounds that can be used without fear of punishment.

Consider that there are millions of videos on video hosting, and many of them use music from the library. Using other sites to search for music several times reduces the likelihood of matches.

To achieve a unique sound, you can write the music yourself or order from a freelancer. But here it is up to you to decide on what to spend your strength and money.

Sound effects

Sometimes for giving sharpness, originality or just for fun, it is appropriate to use different sounds in the commercials. They can also be downloaded from free online libraries.

For example, on FreeSound, users actively share files, so here you can find almost everything you need. For convenience, there is a search by tags. Also, the files are divided into different categories depending on the type of license. Another popular stock is AudioMicro. It offers over 2 thousand free sound effects.

There are also many websites with free audio files in runet, but most of them lack copyright information. It is unlikely that you will be held accountable for a short sound, but let's not deviate from the legal methods of extracting material for installation in this article.

Conclusion

Everyone can have their own set of tools. I described something that once helped me. Perhaps you use other programs and methods. If so, share in the comments, this will complement the article well.
